Garden Features and Structures
Garden features give the chance to personalise the garden, to reflect
the clients tastes and interests and to build on the themes of the
design layout, hard landscape and planting.
We have designed and constructed gardens incorporating a wide range
of garden structures. These include our own designs for pergolas,
trelliswork and screens, seat arbours etc. We are able to build these
ourselves or to commission specialists to make them for us. We are
also able to source a wide range of ready made items, which can add
the finishing touch to your garden.
Lighting
Most designs that we prepare include
the option of garden lighting. Good lighting greatly increases the
visual enjoyment and extends the use of the garden.
We use lighting to produce highlights to specimen plants and features,
to bring light to sitting areas, to softly light paths around a garden
and to light entrance ways in front gardens.
Playhouses
As parents ourselves we are committed
to the garden being a place for all the family to enjoy and have designed
and built a wide range of bespoke play equipment.
We can also adapt and paint readymade items to make distinctive and
individual pieces at a very reasonable cost. Raising a playhouse off
the ground makes it seem more intriguing and painting it makes it
feel special. Adding a slide makes it more exciting. Building in a
sandpit under the playhouse adds to the fun, especially if a tap or
pop-up sprinkler is included so that the sand pit can be flooded!
Ornaments and Seating
With established contacts throughout
the country we can source high quality, distinctive or unusual ornaments
and seats or have them specially made for you.
Water
A water feature or pond can be a great
addition to a garden, with its theraputic, restful qualities,
it is also a great haven for wildlife. In fact, a natural pond is
the most effective way of increasing the range of wild life in your
garden.
Metalwork
We have a long established relationship
with an excellent metalworker, Warren. He has made and installed numerous
gates and railings for our gardens and we are able to offer the client
a huge range of railing and gate styles and designs for railing and
post heads. Everything is made to measure and in our view carefully
designed and craftsman made railings are a real asset to the presentation
of a house.
We have designed and Warren has made other metal garden structures.
Amongst the most successful is a protective pond cover for rectangular
or circular pools. This is set just below the water surface and prevents
children from falling into the water and allows plants and pondlife
to exist without disturbance.
Warren is also able to design and install remote control operated
driveway and pedestrian gates both in metalwork or with a metal frame
clad in timber.
Irrigation
Conservation of water is increasingly
important and we try plant gardens responsibly and in dry areas to
favour drought tolerant plants. After planting a garden careful watering
is the key to successful establishment but we would hope ultimately
that the need for supplementary watering will be minimal.
Having said this it may seem strange to promote the use of automatic
irrigation. We need to look at ways to use water efficiently and a
well designed irrigation system can deliver water to plants more effectively
and sparingly than watering with a hose pipe and sprinkler.
We design and install irrigation systems at many levels of complexity
from a simple single supply run off a battery timer on a tap to a
multiple zoned system with pumped water from a storage tank managed
by an electronic programmer. We also offer DIY kits for easy installation.
We use a rainfall sensor which suspends watering after rain, an intelligent
programmer to minimise water wastage and soakahose and mini drippers
to efficiently deliver water to the roots of plants in beds and pots.
We are currently considering the use of stored rainwater and waste
household water in our irrigation systems. |
